Melodie Scalf has been providing top-notch service for our clients since 2014. She is currently in the process of obtaining additional securities and insurance licensing to become a Financial Advisor.

What gets you up and going every morning?
Coffee served to me in bed by my husband!

Where is your favorite place you've ever been on vacation, and why?
Usually I would say something with an adventure that happened in the great outdoors. However, this year my husband and I took our family of four daughters to Disneyland, and it was the first time for all of them to experience the magic of Disney.  My girls were in awe of everything and it truly was, as Rapunzel would say, “The Best Day Ever”!

What inspired you to become a Financial Advisor?
Once my girls were all old enough to go to school, I decided that it was time to get back out into the workforce again. Financial services came across my path and I found it to be a great fit for me. I was inspired by the passion of the team at Varra Financial to help people achieve their financial goals. It is empowering to see our efforts truly making a difference in the lives of our clients and I find it very fulfilling to help in that cause.

What are your hobbies?
I love to run, hike and ride my bike!

Tell us about your recent experience in running a Ragnar race and what it was like to run 200 miles?!
There I was, standing at the start line of my first 200-ish mile race, wondering how the next 36 hours were going to go. I was feeling excited and nervous, and I had questions about my capabilities. As many of my team mates later expressed similar thoughts, I realized that the truth is, if you have ever stepped outside your comfort zone, you may have at least once had this thought. “Do I have what it takes”?

We weren’t out to win anything. Our team started this adventure by wanting to bring awareness with fundraising for a local charity called Urban Outreach Denver. Urban Outreach Denver is a center in Downtown that provides warm meals for the needy, a safe place with listening ears and caring hearts. We were committed to put ourselves in uncomfortable situations to help bring awareness for those who struggle every day.

The struggle became very real. We experienced hot temperatures and mountain passes, we took wrong turns and had stomach issues that brought great pain. As we ran through the night the sleep deprivation began to take its toll, the goal at one point was just to keep going, putting one foot in front of the other inch by inch, making our way that much closer to the finish line. We had to dig deep trying to muster up any possible effort that might still be in there somewhere.

In the midst of the struggle we pulled together, filling in for an injured runner, providing water, much needed rest, and most of all encouragement! The sweet sound of your team mate yelling from the check point, “You can do it…I believe in you!, while you struggle to make it up the last bit of the steep slope at 2am, is like music to the ears!

Those beautiful words are calling to the deepest part of you, they are beckoning out to the courage that lies within you. This same courage brings an answer to that question you wrestle with. Yes you do have what it takes and you’re not alone in this struggle and you’re not alone in the victory either!
